This is a three week Tournament Sponsored by Orriss and Lowe a local Optometrist serving Winscombe and District but welcomes clients from anywhere.
As one of the leading Optometrists in the Southwest of England in diagnosing and treating areas of eye health. Orriss & Low are delighted to be offering a pioneering treatment for dry macular degeneration (AMD), the primary cause of blindness in adults over 65 years of age, we are honoured that Orriss & Low have again sponsored this tournament.
Four teams came through the 3 group matches, the Knock Out Stages and reached the Final Night. The 3rd and 4th place playoff match was between St Andrews A and Burnham. By the 10th end Burnham were ahead and extended their lead to 14 - 8 after 14 ends.
The closing stages were dramatic with St Andrews closing to 14 -13 as they went into the final end. Burnham picked up two shots to take 3rd place, but well played both teams .
In the Final, Kelly's Mob, who are all Winscombe players apart from their skip Steve Healey, played against Congresbury whose team included a thirteen year old Lucas ,who played lead and Ant Page who is Disability Bowls England Open Single Champ and Indoor Singles Champion.
Kelly's Mob were always ahead but Congresbury came back from being 9-4 down to close to 12 -10 at end 15. The final stages were even more dramatic with Kelly's Mob picking up a single on end 16 to go 3 shots ahead only to lose it again to Congresbury.
Two shots separated the sides on the last end.
With the skips to play, Kelly's Mob were holding two and the game looked over but their skip had spotted 3 Congresbury bowls resting behind the jack with a narrow gap to feed the jack through!. His bowl was perfect taking the jack back to the Congresbury woods and they were ahead by one shot!. But Steve Healey, with his last wood, took careful aim and drew around all the short woods and came in to nestle on the Congresbury bowls and take the shot - the perfect bowl!
Significant prize money was presented to all four teams by our generous Sponsor Aaran Patel owner of Orriss and Low .
The winners generously donated their prize money to Winscombe BC Charity 'The Children's South West Hospice.'
Our thanks to Malcolm Dorrington for organising the Tournament and all those Winscombe Members who Umpired or provided the Hot Dogs and Pasties throughout the 3 weeks of the event.
Our Thanks to all the teams who took part and look forward to seeing you next year.
